Strategies and techniques that improve memory and concentration are highly sought after in today’s fast paced world. Regardless, of what we are challenged with these skills become pivotal. Therefore, finding unique and innovative ways to improve these skills is essential.
Tips to Improve Memory and Concentration
1. Stop Overloading Your Brain Circuits
Many people assume that multitasking is a good thing, when in actuality it puts your brain on hyper-drive. Overloading the stimuli that goes to your brain only leads to confusion and lack of focus. Essentially, the very opposite of what you are trying to achieve.
In a 2009 study, Stanford researcher Clifford Nass challenged 262 college students to complete experiments that involved switching among tasks, filtering irrelevant information, and using working memory. Nass and his colleagues expected that frequent multi-taskers would outperform non multi-taskers on at least some of these activities. They found the opposite to be true. Nass claimed that frequent multi-taskers use their brains less effectively. via Inc. Magazine
In other words, what we have for years thought to be a strength is actually doing more harm to our brains. It is decreasing our ability to improve memory and concentration.
In 2010, a study by neuroscientists at the French medical research agency Inserm showed that when people focus on two tasks simultaneously, each side of the brain tackles a different task.
This suggests a two-task limit on what the human brain can handle. Taking on more tasks increases the likelihood of errors. Rather than switching tasks from minute to minute, dedicate a 20-minute chunk of time to a single task, then switch to the next one. via Time – Business & Money
2. Give Your Brain a Mega Boost of Vitamins
For years we have known the benefits of various vitamins and minerals. While some people may be skeptics the truth is that ‘essential’ vitamins and minerals are those that our bodies are not able to make on their own. We need to get these through our foods and quite often are not able to get the amounts required to enter into a a therapeutic range.
Moreover, some vitamins specifically target our brainpower and help to improve memory and concentration. Pyrroloquinoline Quinone or PQQ is one such vitamin. It belongs to the family of B vitamins and has shown a number of benefits.
In human studies on cognition, PQQ has been shown to improve various aspects critical to mental functioning, including attention, information identification, processing ability, short-term memory and spatial awareness. via Innovite Health – Healthy LIfestyle Blog
3. Indulge in Brain Foods
Food can have a huge effect on our ability to improve memory and concentration. These types of foods are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They provide the nourishment our brains need to thrive. Such foods include: nuts, seeds and avocados.

Nuts and seeds – These food items are loaded with Vitamin E.
Avocados – This fruit, while high in calories, also has healthy levels of monounsaturated fat, which contributes to better blood flow.
Blueberries – Research done a few years ago on people demonstrated that regular intake of blueberries is linked to a slower decline in both memory and focus.
